♥ A FASHION STORY FROM THE DEBUT ISSUE OF 'SO IT GOES' ♥

I had to post this fashion story up because it's really pretty and cute. It's a little less polished than something you'd see in something like...Lula. But I think that's what makes it good.  It's a "bi-annual culture glossy" which is a new term maybe, called SO IT GOES. I guess the model is a British actress named Felicity Jones (have no idea who she is, but she's cute).  Styling is by Sissy Sainte-Marie, Hair is by Alex Polillo  and I think makeup is Sabrina Bedrani. The story was shot by Eliot Lee Hazel (best name ever). ♥

i love this look and this dress. when i was little little, all the shirts and dresses had those little winged ruffles on them. i still love them.

♥ SAINT LAURENT WINTER 2013 CAMPAIGN PART 1 VIDEO ♥

I still don't know how I feel about this. About what Hedi has done with YSL-no-longer...with "Saint Laurent". It's so grunge-y and stuff you'd find at any fast-fashion boutique. It looks that way. Cara Delevigne looks overly thin and strung out. I just don't know. I like some of the shots with the red-head. Some of  it looks YSL. But most of it...well, see for yourself...this was JUST posted a few moments ago...

At least the music is good. ♥

♥ TUESDAY TAILOR ♥ MOSCHINO CHEAP & CHIC RESORT 2014 ♥

I reallllly love love the Resort collection from Moschino Cheap and Chic. Though, it doesn't realllly look like Resort at all. This is a case when it would be best to just call it what it is...transition. I love the shoes and the little pieces and the lookbook itself. There are a lot of pieces I'd wear straight off the model. See more here.

adorable take on tie-dye. she looks cute. i love love those booties.

very cute. but it doesn't look resort.

so cute. if i had that tall body, i'd rock that look.

so so cute in pastels.

this looks like old chloe.

i love this model flower child take. the bag and shoes are amazing, too.

grunge-y anyone? i had so many little dresses like this in the 90s. and i wore them with boots, too.

another look i love. esp that sweater.

i could never wear this. i'm too petite. but i like it.

♥ MEMORIAL WEEKEND TRIP TO THE RANCH ♥ PART 4 ♥ GOODBYE ♥

It was a great trip despite some parent drama. This place is so so magical and beautiful and I'd love to just buy it from my parents one day, even though it's not at the beach which is my favorite of all places. I hope you enjoyed the photos as much as I enjoyed sharing them. Now I'm back in regular (consumer) civilization.

farm fresh eggs in martha stewart colors from the happy french hens that run around the acres.

one of the two dogs at the ranch. he's pasha. he's the sweetest thing and wants to be pet all the time, which is why he has his paw on my foot. but he's also very protective of the ranch.

a couple of new goats to the pack. one of them looks like an animal from star wars. it's almost as tall as i am.

this is a squirrel carved into a tree stump. it's probably been here for at least 50 years and maybe longer. this property was founded in the 1800s by some dutch settlers who moved out here from the east.

i'm feeding one baby goat with crazy light eyes. he reminds me of the lion the witch and the wardrobe. like he'd start playing a flute or something.

this is another cute baby goat. these two goats were rescued and my father has raised them since they were tiny little helpless things.

i get to feed the cute baby calf. she's so pretty. she's an angus which means she will be huuuuuge!

i fed bazzi the donkey some carrots and he was super happy.

a really really old car prob from the 30s or 20s that one of the neighbors has on my parents' ranch temporarily. i want it! look how cool the front end is!

this is a lonely bus stop. i found out that a guy made it for his daughter so she would have somewhere to sit when she's waiting for the school bus. it's so so cute. it looks like an old bus stop out of a movie.

just some cool horseshoes on a gate.

i love this cabin. it's super rad looking.

that's a warped shadow of me and my dog. it looks stretched sideways so everything looks wide. but oh well. :)

♥ MEMORIAL WEEKEND TRIP TO THE RANCH ♥ PART 3 ♥

Let's just do this as a picture story...it was really relaxing (for the most part) and truly inspirational for my creative head. I am also brainstorming some beauty or candy ideas or something I can do with the natural resources there (like all the fruit and natural herbs and trees, etc)...

when the sun starts going down behind us, i always think this mountain or hill looks like the pyramids in egypt. it actually glows.

my little lotte chilling out in the sun.

one of the neighbors has a collection of old windmills...amazing. it looks totally magical here.

it's just so pretty here.
some of the family animals including ginger the cow and bazzi the donkey.

that's my favorite writing chair thus far.

i haven't been here yet. but i heard my brother and his friends might give it a go one day soon when they visit. this is the back of the bar.

they actually have an official lovers lane in the big city nearby. crazy good.

i'll be eating these totally organic farm fresh apricots soon!

we picked a couple of crates from the trees outside the house. the color is beautiful!

one little calf. she is so spoiled. she gets treated like a family pet.

little cupcake saying hello to the baby goats.

farm fresh meal that my mom made. feta cheese, fresh baked rolls, greens and veggies, zucchini pakoorah kind of things and some patties that she got a recipe for online. they're sort of indian tasting, which we love, even though we're not indian.
the stay is almost over. for such a city girl that i am, i do like to escape to this place every once in a while. the weather has also been perfect.

One more post next and then we'll plunge right back into Resort. Hope you all had a great weekend. Even though I didn't do any vintage shopping (which is amazing here) or writing (which I needed to tackle but did not), I still got a lot out of it.

♥ MEMORIAL WEEKEND TRIP TO THE RANCH ♥ PART 2 ♥ BEAUTY HAUL ♥

On the way to the ranch, I had to stop off to make a payment on a Sears credit card. Sears isn't a place I shop at. We go there for car tires and big appliances for the home like washers and dryers and refrigerators...stuff like that.

a beauty haul...ranch style. :)
BUT while I was standing in line to pay the bill, I noticed a lot of 60% off signs in the beauty department. The beauty department looks a lot like an Ulta. It has all the drugstore brands plus NYX plus some higher end things and a lot of amazing skincare and spa bath toiletries. I decided to go on over and check it out. OMG...I scored! I also picked up a couple things for my mom...I guess they're trying to get rid of everything ASAP and then they won't carry beauty anymore.

What I got: a Revlon lip butter in FIG JAM...I used to always buy the Clinique lip balm in Black Honey or something like that and I'm stoked that this looks like a perfect match and feels amazing on my skin. More later on this...a Revlon Colorstay foundation for myself and two for my mom (though there are only two shown here)...after the discount, they were only around $5 each!!! And I love love this foundation (as you can see/read here)...a Covergirl nail polish in FOREVER FAWN...a nude/milky chocolate color...these are made in FRANCE, people! So cheap after the discount!...a Revlon blemish concealer...first time I am trying this....it has salicylic acid...so far, so good...my mom got a Revlon undereye concealer...we'll see...AND THEN....I was able to also score two really amazing Dermalogica products!...the MULTIVITAMIN POWER RECOVER MASQUE!...I used it last night because of the drive and the dirt and the dry air here...and I love it!...especially for 60% off!...and I was also lucky enough to get the DAILY MICROFOLIANT...I probably won't use this every day as it says. But it has good ingredients in it including colloidal oatmeal...which I love....I will review it later as I will with the others...!

We might go to the Sears here to see if they have anything else around. I saw some Ahava products and I want to see if I can score an overnight serum...because I LOVE those!

More about the trip soon!

♥ MEMORIAL WEEKEND TRIP TO THE RANCH ♥ PART 1 ♥

AWAY AWAY FROM THE CITY OF LA (THERE'S AN AMAZING APRICOT TREE...AND ONE OF THE FAMILY DOGS, CUPCAKE, CHILLING OUT ON THE RIGHT)

ON THE ROAD...

I just thought it might be nice to do something different this weekend for the blog. At the last minute, I decided to drive up to my parents' ranch about 3 hours north of Los Angeles for the weekend (it's a holiday weekend here in the States and most people have Monday off). I tend to take for granted that everyone sees this stuff, but I do have a load of foreign readers and this might be fun for them.

Let me start by saying that I am definitely a city girl. I like cabs and walking on busy streets and cafés. I love high heels. This, however, is the country. It's dirt and animals and bugs and trees and everything else that comes with country territory. My parents have smallish ranch...about 7 acres....with loads of animals and lovely organic fruit and eggs and other fun things. Plus, it is just beautiful here. I stayed here for a while a couple of years ago when I was finalizing my novel and it was so so easy to get stuff done. I am going to attempt to work on my new novel while I'm here. More on that soon.

But first...here is the trip from the beginning. I just thought it might be interesting to show what it's like to leave the city...and drive somewhere not along the beaches. If you are a tourist to LA, you will probably drive on Highway 1 also known as Pacific Coast Highway. But we have to take another freeway...that goes more inland toward the mountains. It's also fun to see what's here. Let's start...I'll have more to post after this (a quick shopping trip where I scored some amazing products for an amazing discount that I'll post next) and some other photos of the actual place I'm at. Let me know if you like this stuff and I can do these journey posts every time I go on a trip. :)

THIS IS THE FREEWAY WHEN WE LEFT...ABOUT 20 MINUTES FROM DOWNTOWN LA. LATER IN THE DAY AND THE NEXT DAY THIS FREEWAY WILL BE BUMPER-TO-BUMPER TRAFFIC. ICK. BEST TO LEAVE EARLY.
AN ICED CHAI LATTE FROM THE COFFEE BEAN. I THINK I PREFER THE ONES FROM STARBUCKS BUT COFFEE BEAN HAS A DRIVE-THRU WINDOW.
LITTLE LOTTE ON MY LAP. SHE IS SO HARD TO PHOTOGRAPH. SHE KNOWS AND SHE TENDS TO LOOK AWAY OR DOWN. SO PRETTY THIS LITTLE THING.
WE STOPPED BY SEARS (A PLACE YOU BUY STOVES AND TIRES FOR YOUR CAR AND APPLIANCES...OR KARDASHIAN CLOTHES) TO MAKE A PAYMENT ON THE CREDIT CARD AND NOTICED THEY WERE LIQUIDATING THEIR ENTIRE BEAUTY DEPARTMENT! SCORE!!! I'LL DO A POST ON THIS NEXT. AMAZING BUYS! INCLUDNG DERMALOGICA SKINCARE!
IN A LOT OF PARTS OUTSIDE OF LA PROPER, THE SUBURBS, YOU WILL STILL FIND THE ORIGINAL OLD SIGNAGE FROM COOL FOOD JOINTS LIKE THIS ONE. I GUESS IT USED TO BE A BURGER JOINT BUT NOW SELLS BURRITOS, TOO.
WE STOP BY A FAMOUS ARMENIAN KIND OF MARKET WHERE THEY SELL EVERYTHING. PICKING UP SOME FRUIT AND OTHER GOODS FOR MY DAD AND THE TRIP.
ARMENIAN BAKERIES ALWAYS HAVE THE BEST PASTRIES! ARMENIAN BAKERIES ARE REALLY POPULAR IN LOS ANGELES AND ORANGE COUNTY...
YOU KNOW YOU'RE DEF LEAVING LA WHEN YOU REACH SIX FLAGS MAGIC MOUNTAIN...SEE THE ROLLER COASTERS IN THE DISTANCE.
THIS IS WHAT IS LOOKS LIKE WHEN YOU REALLY START TO LEAVE THE CITY. IN THE SUMMER. IN THE WINTER IT'S GREEN AND SOMETIMES SNOWING HERE.

WHEN YOU AREN'T DRIVING ON PCH, AND IT'S HOT SUMMER TIME, YOU WILL SEE A LOT OF...DESERT. AND COWS. :) NOT TOO EXCITING.
WE START GETTING CLOSE TO THE RANCH. IT'S ALL ORCHARDS AROUND HERE. ESPECIALLY CITRUS AND NUTS.

THIS IS PART OF THE ORIGINAL TRAIN TRACKS THAT RAN HERE BACK IN THE 1800'S. IT JUST SITS THERE ALONGSIDE THE ROAD LIKE A GHOST. SO PRETTY HERE. THE MOUNTAINS IN THE HORIZON.

ALL THE ORCHARDS. AWESOME PLACE TO RIDE YOUR VINTAGE BIKE.

YEA...WE'VE ARRIVED. THAT'S NOT MY PARENTS' PLACE. THAT'S ACROSS THE WAY. BUT LOOK HOW BEAUTIFUL IT IS HERE. HARD TO THINK WE'RE SO CLOSE TO THE CITY.

More soon. Next post will be the haul of beauty and then continue with the animals and other fun things around here. Happy weekend if you are relaxing or partying!
